Presented at Canadian Mineral Analysts (CMA) Conference, September 2024

At the Canadian Mineral Analysts (CMA) 2024 conference in Kamloops, BC, I gave an oral presentation on my research, Detection of Cannabidiol (CBD) and Cannabigerol (CBG) by LC-MS for Kinetic Studies. Cannabidiol (CBD) and Cannabigerol (CBG) are non-psychoactive cannabinoids found in cannabis, with CBD widely used for medicinal purposes. CBG is the decarboxylated form of cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), a precursor to various cannabinoids, including Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This study aimed to develop an LC-MS method for detecting CBD and CBG.

Beyond medicinal applications, understanding cannabinoid transformation pathways is crucial for environmental sciences. Cannabis cultivation and disposal can introduce cannabinoids into soil and water systems, where microbial and chemical processes may alter their composition. Investigating the kinetics of CBD-to-THC conversion can help assess the potential formation of psychoactive compounds in environmental matrices. This research contributes to monitoring emerging contaminants and ensuring environmental safety in regions where cannabis production is prevalent.

Presented at Science Undergrad Poster Exhibition of Research (SUPER) TRU Conference, 2024 and TRU Undergraduate Research & Innovation Conference, 2024

Presented a Research Assistant project on analytical chemistry at the Science Undergrad Poster Exhibition of Research (SUPER) conference and the TRU Undergraduate Research & Innovation Conference. This work showcases my research on method development in various environmental and analytical chemistry fields to inspire and engage younger undergraduate science students. Through this experience, I gained a deeper appreciation for the role of analytical chemistry in addressing environmental challenges. Communicating my research to a broader audience reinforced the importance of accessible, rigorous scientific methods in sustainability efforts, shaping my perspective on how laboratory innovations contribute to real-world environmental solutions.
