I presented my poster, Analysis of 20 Elements and Speciation of Arsenic in Vegetables Using Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry, at the 57th Annual Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry Research Day on October 18, 2024. This research was part of my NSERC USRA employment during the summer of 2024 at UofA with Dr. Le’s lab. I investigated arsenic contamination in locally grown vegetables and mushrooms. Using HPLC-ICPMS, I analyzed arsenic species to assess their toxicity and potential health risks. The findings highlight the importance of speciation analysis in food safety and environmental sustainability by helping to identify safer agricultural practices and reduce human exposure to toxic arsenic species.
